Good Neighbours

The Good Neighbour Project began in 1989, and was designed to help people discover their gifts and talents, and then use them in a voluntary capacity to benefit the local community.

Good Neighbours is based at St. Christopher's Church. The Co-ordinator of the project is Elaine O'Connell, and her assistant is Diane Berry. They can be contacted during normal office hours on 01274 689898. A range of activities are available there - including the following:

'Home from Home'. The 'Home from Home' is a centre for people aged 55+, where all are made welcome. Members enjoy games, quizzes, bingo, videos - or you can just sit and have a chat! Each day there is a 2 course lunch available at a cost of only £1.90 - including tea and coffee morning, lunchtime and afternoon. In addition we offer a return door to door minibus service for only 70p.

Good News Shop:  The shop is located in the entrance lobby at St. Christophers.  It is open every morning and has a wide selection of good quality second-hand clothes, household items and occasional craft items made by Home from Home members. Come along, and pick up a bargain.

Community Cafe: Our cafe is open at St. Christopher's on Monday and Thursday lunchtimes from 11 am, and serves home cooked food at very reasonable prices. We receive help from students from local schools who come along and help to serve our customers. We much appreciate their help - and in return they catch a glimpse of the value of church based community projects.

Community Furniture Store:The store is located at 13/14 The Parade, and sells good quality used furniture at really good prices. The store also sells lots of household items and is open Monday to Friday from 10 am - 1 pm and from 1.30 pm - 3.30 pm. Contact Mike on 01274 680997 if you have any queries, or goods to dispose of.

Hairdressing: Hairdressing by Julie happens on Thursdays from 9.30 - 1 pm and on Fridays from 10 am to 3 pm. Appointments are not always necessary, and the service has extremely competitive prices.

Fresh and Fruity Food: Fresh fruit and vegetables are available for sale on Thursdays and Fridays (and on other days as well sometimes) from 10 am to 1 pm, at very good prices.

Line Dancing: Line dancing takes place in the Church Hall from 2 pm every Thursday during term time. Sessions are led by John Barker, and cost only £1 including refreshments.

Indoor Bowls:  We have two indoor bowls mats avalable every Tuesday from 1 pm to 3.30 pm - so, if you would like to try your hand at bowls, just come along and ask for Elaine or Diane.  You'll need to wear soft shoes so as not to damage the mats. Each session costs just 60p and includes refreshments.
