St. Christopher's Church, Holme Wood
St. Christopher's lies at the junction of Holme Wood Road and Broadstone
Way, on the Holme Wood Estate in Bradford. The postcode is BD4 9EJ.
The easiest route to find it is by coming to the Dudley Hill junction of
the A650 and the Bradford Ring Road. Take the Ring Road going anti-clockwise
(Sticker Lane), and immediately take the right hand lane into Cutler Heights
Lane. Turn right into Holme Wood Road after the Morrison's Distribution
Centre on the right. St. Christopher's is on the right, at the end of the
road.
St. Christopher's was built at the same time as much of the
estate, in the 1960's. For more information on the history of the church,
see the historical
section. In addition to being a place of worship, it is also a busy
community centre, offering a wide range of activities.
The large and well-equipped community centre is used to
offer a wide range of activities each day of the week. It is also available
for local people who want to use it for private parties - particularly on
Saturdays.
Our Good Neighbour Project offers a 'Day Centre' for older
people - on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. There is also a lunchtime
community café open on Mondays and Thursday, and fresh fruit and
vegetables can be purchased on Thursdays and Fridays. For more information
contact Elaine O'Connell on 01274 689898 or click on Good Neighbours.

birth up to 15 years. The youngest creche group incorporates a See and Know
session. . Our Wannabe Performing Arts group meets on Saturday
mornings. Our Wannabe Music Maker programme is available after school
on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for young people in school
years 6 - 9. For more information contact our Youth Workers, Andy
Sykes or Fiona Meneghello, on 01274 652539, or click on Youth Work.
'Time for God' on Wednesday mornings meets in the chapel,
and combines a short bible study with a service of Holy Communion, and meets
at 10.30 am. We warmly welcome all who would like to benefit
from this.
St. Christopher's is available for local people to use for
weddings and funerals. With regard to weddings, it should be noted
that it is possible for a Church marriage to be planned which is
much less elaborate and expensive than is often the case. (The clergy
are always keen to talk to couples who are wanting to get married,
but are anxious about the financial cost - whether at St. Christopher's,
or St. James') The church is frequently used by local people
for funeral services. Because of this, we offer Memorial Services
every six months, in May and November, for all who have been recently
bereaved.
The church hall can sometimes be booked for private parties
at weekends - for more information contact Gordon Dey on 01274 682100.
